Growers of garden worthy plants from around the world, selected for Western Australia's Mediterranean climate.
At Zephs we choose most plants for their ease of growth, suitability to our climate and most importantly for what they contribute to a garden. Some we choose because they are breathtakingly beautiful or uniquely remarkable and are worth a little extra attention. We don't choose plants simply because they look good in a pot and are quick and easy to produce.
We are lucky enough to live in one of the world's great gardening climates, allowing us to choose from an incredible palette of beautiful garden plants without the need to waste space, time and money on anything boring or unhappy.
-
You will notice while browsing this site that many plants, particularly the new introductions, do not yet have descriptions. We try to provide information applicable to West Australian conditions, until we have observed how a plant grows and performs here it is difficult to provide any meaningful insights to it's cultivation or use in the garden. Until we learn enough to share we hope you will find the search function of the plants list helpful.
-
All of our plants are propagated locally and grown outdoors in conditions similar to those in your garden.
-
We use an excellent organic potting mix for all our plants and seed raising. This is available at the nursery at $5 a 30L bag.
-
We do not use insecticides or fungicides as good plants should be able to survive in the real world. We do use Iron based snail pellets for the control of slugs and snails. These are harmless to other animals and feed the plants a small dose of Iron.
-
As we don't use herbicides in the pots there are often seedlings to be found in your purchases. Whilst these may be weeds, most of the time they are the beautiful self seeders that you see in the nursery. Make sure you know what your pulling out.
-
When visiting the nursery don't be alarmed that the plants are not flowering in the pots, it's better they flower in your garden instead.
-
Many plants, particularly the more drought hardy, have large root systems and need to be planted when young. Small plants are cheaper and it's better they grow in your garden.
-
Some plants, biennials, many Penstemon species and those that are short lived and/or very fast growing, we grow in biodegradable pots made from plantation timber waste and renewable peat. These plants should be planted as soon as possible without removing the pot.
-
We sell plants not fancy labels. Pots are labeled as they leave the nursery with paper stickers. These are cheap, biodegradable and are not made from fossil fuel.
-
We try to keep prices as low as possible, so the minuscule amount you pay for your fantastic plants must be made in Cash or via PayPal.
-
Trade customers are welcome and receive 10% discount on all plants, 20% on invoices over $500. We can grow plants to meet your requirements, please inquire. Contract orders require a 50% deposit, refundable on failure of supply.
